Research on quality supervision mechanism of EPC projects in China based on constructing grounded theory

Abstract:From the perspective of government project quality supervision, through in-depth interviews and field research, the constructing grounded theory was employed to encode the interview data, and the core components and operation mechanism of EPC project quality supervision mechanism were explored. By combining the information of the investigated Chinese construction projects, integrating the advantages of empirical grounded theory approach, and applying the interpretivist concept and critical thinking, the cause (“why”) that the appropriate EPC engineering quality supervision mechanism cannot be derived from the traditional project quality supervision mechanism is clearly explained, and then the project quality supervision mechanism adapted to the situation of EPC projects in China has been constructed. In addition, drawing on the experience of Chinese EPC projects and relevant literature review, suggestions are given at three levels, namely government regulation, industry governance and project management. Research results can make up for the deficiency in the present research on EPC project quality supervision mechanism, and provide guidance for EPC projects quality supervision, furthermore, it is of practical importance and significance for the healthy development of EPC mode in China.
