Research on deformation limits of SRC columns based on experimental data

Abstract:Experimental results of 206 steel reinforced concrete (SRC) columns at home and abroad were collected and analyzed to find out the influence of the shear span ratio, flexure shear ratio, axial load coefficient, transverse reinforcement ratio and shaped steel ratio on the failure modes of SRC columns. A method classifying the failure modes of SRC columns using the shear span ratio and the flexure shear ratio. With reference to the current code for seismic design and the summary of phenomena related to different performance levels, the performances of SRC columns were divided into five phases, and the limits of plastic rotation angles of these levels were determined based on the feature points of the skeleton curves. The relations between the deformation limits of SRC columns and the five principal parameters under different failure modes were analyzed and the axial load coefficient was determined as the key parameter. Criteria of deformation limits corresponding to the five performance levels were put forward and verified by analyzing the 206 test specimens. The results show that the proposed criteria of failure modes can preferably predict the failure modes of SRC columns. The reliability of deformation limits of SRC columns derived from the axial load coefficient is within the reasonable range.
