Abstract:A series of monotonic loading tests were conducted on glulam bolted connection specimens to investigate the rotational behavior of such connections under coupled bending moment and shear force. Furthermore, based on the Johansen’s model, the design method of the ultimate capacity and the stiffness of the connections were proposed. The theoretical moment-rotation curves of the connections were also presented. The estimated results showed good agreement with the experimental results. Finally, the influence of the shear-flexure ratio on the ultimate shear capacity of the connections were studied. The experimental and calculation results indicate that the estimated ultimate capacity, stiffness and the theoretical moment-rotation curve show good agreement with those of the experiments. With the increase of the shear-moment ratio, the additional bending moment of connection decreases, and the shear capacity of connection increases. Connections under pure shear force appear to possess the highest shear capacity, and the additional bending moment has negative effect on the shear capacity of the connections. The theoretical momentshear capacity curve of the connections can be calculated by the proposed theoretical approach. The experimental and theoretical results can be referred to in the engineering design of the glulam bolted connections with slotted-in steel plates.
