Abstract: In order to investigate the seismic performance of assembled piers connected with screw thread steel bar and flange under horizontal loads, one overall castin-place pier and two precast piers connected with screw thread steel and bar flange were designed and fabricated. Non-socket assembly scheme and socket assembly scheme were adopted respectively in the two precast piers. The failure modes and load-displacement curves of the prefabricated bridge piers and overall cast-in-place pier were studied by carrying out a pseudo-static loading test. Based on the experiment results, the finite element numerical models of the three piers were established. The analysis results using the FEM agree well with the experiment results. The research results show that the lateral bearing capacity of assembled piers can reach the level of overall cast-in-place piers. Plastic hinge of the assembled piers eventually appears on the upper part of the flange and pier column interface, which moves up by the height of a flange compared with overall cast-in-place piers. The residual displacement of the assembled piers connected with screw thread steel bar and flange is smaller than that of the overall cast-in-place pier. The energy dissipation capacity and displacement ductility of the precast pier with socket assembly scheme are significantly better than those of the precast pier with non-socket assembly scheme. Compared with the non-socket assembly scheme, the socket assembly scheme is better due to its good integrity, and seismic performance. The research results can provide reference for the design and application of prefabricated bridge piers connected with screw thread steel bar and flange.
