A response spectrum CCQC method of non-proportionally damped linear systems with hysteretic damping

Abstract:The modal decomposition response spectrum method based on proportionally damped systems has been widely used as a common method of calculating the seismic effect of structures. However, it is unreasonable to apply this method directly to non-proportional damping systems, such as structures with energy dissipation dampers. In order to extend the application scope of the response spectrum method in the Code, the hysteretic damping model is established based on complex damping model, and then complex mode superposition method based on hysteretic damping model is proposed. By combining the pseudo excitation method with the stationary random vibration theory, the formula of CCQC (complex complete quadratic combination) method based on hysteretic damping model is derived. The proposed response spectrum method can be applied to calculating the seismic effect of non-proportional damping hybrid structures. Compared with the response spectrum CCQC method which is based on the common Rayleigh damping model, the proposed CCQC method is only dependent on the material damping parameters and the structural stiffness. The corresponding calculation results are unique, independent of the mode combination. Compared with the response spectrum CQC method which is based on the equivalent damping ratio, the proposed method can effectively model the non-proportional characteristics of hybrid structure, indicating that the method is applicable for hybrid structure with remarkable non-proportional characteristics.
