Influence law of meteorological elements on radial temperature field of tunnel in a cold region#br#

Abstract: In areas with seasonal freezing, the severe meteorological conditions are the main cause of freezing damage to tunnel linings. This study considered a highway tunnel in a cold region and investigated the influence of different meteorological conditions on the tunnel’s radial temperature field distribution. The measured field data were compared with the numerical simulation results to verify the accuracy of the calculation method and parameter values. Then, the influence of the time, tunnel temperature, and initial ground temperature on the radial temperature field was analyzed using the single-factor cycle method. In winter, the depth of freezing and the temperature change at the tunnel invert are higher than those at other parts of the tunnel. The freezing and temperature change ranges at the invert are 0.323-4.78 m and 6.669-7.404 m, respectively, and obviously higher than those at other parts of the tunnel. The depth of freezing and temperature changing zone decrease from the tunnel invert to the vault. The temperature field distribution of the tunnel section was quantitatively analyzed under various meteorological conditions, and the formula for calculating the freezing depth and temperature change depth at the invert was established under combined initial ground temperature and air temperature conditions. The findings of this study can provide a reference for the anti-freezing design of tunnels in cold regions.
