Abstract:To study the mechanical behavior of superposed exterior basement walls with socket base under lateral earth pressure, nine specimens and one cast-in-place concrete specimen (for comparison) were tested under static lateral load. Damage processes and failure modes of the two different kinds of specimens were observed, and those influences of the factors, including the embedded depth, exterior longitudinal reinforcement ratio of wall panel, thickness of the exterior transverse wall of socket base, and roughness treatment of the contact interface between the base and the wall, etc., on the mechanical behavior of the superposed wall with socket base were evaluated. Based on the tests and FEM analysis, a calculation model of superposed walls with socket base was developed, and then the corresponding design procedure was proposed. Furthermore, the value range of embedded depth, which is an important geometric parameter, was recommended based on theoretical analysis.
