Abstract:The standard review plan (SRP) 3.7.1, issued by US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), specifies detailed acceptance criteria for the design ground motion time history for nuclear power plant, which at present are followed when defining the input ground motion for seismic analysis of structures in nuclear engineering. In this study, as to the acceptance criteria of US NRC-SRP3.7.1 on the design ground motion time history for nuclear power plant, from the five aspects, namely, the selection of “seed” ground motion time history, the correlation of design ground motion time history, the duration, the characteristics of peak velocity and peak displacement, and the special requirements on the design ground motion time history for nonlinear structural analysis, the requirements in different versions of SRP3.7.1 (1989, 2007 and 2014) on the design ground motion time history for nuclear power plant are reviewed. The single-group time history method (method-1 and method-2) and the multi-group time history method specified in SRP3.7.1 are discussed, analyzed and compared. Furthermore, with the response spectral matching method based on wavelet function, a numerical example is presented to generate the design ground motion time history that satisfies the requirements of the first approach of single-group time history method specified in all versions of SRP3.7.1.
