Experimental research on seismic behaviors of precast concrete columns with large-diameter and high-yield strength reinforcements splicing by grout-filled coupling sleeves

Abstract: A low-frequency cyclic loading test was conducted on 6 precast concrete columns (section dimension was 600mm×600mm) with reinforcements splicing by grout-filled coupling sleeves, in which the nominal yield strength of both longitudinal reinforcements and stirrups were 500MPa, diameters of longitudinal reinforcements were 25mm and 36mm. The seismic behaviors of precast concrete columns were analyzed, including failure patterns, hysteretic loops, skeleton curves, displacement ductility, energy dissipation capacity and ultimate bearing capacity. While the influences of axial compression ratio, diameters of longitudinal reinforcements and stirrup forms on seismic behaviors were also investigated. The research results show that all of the longitudinal reinforcements yield in tension at the peak load. The ultimate bearing capacity of specimens has a certain safety degree because the average ratio of calculation value to experimental value of ultimate bearing capacity is 0.78. Hysteretic loops of precast concrete columns with axial compression ratio of 0.50 are plump. The interface in precast concrete columns with axial compression ratio of 0.25 is destroyed and longitudinal reinforcements is even pulled out at last, which results in the lower energy dissipation capacity and obvious pinch of hysteretic loops. Displacement ductility coefficient is from 3.80 to 5.31, ultimate displacement drift is from 1/47 to 1/33, exhibiting great ductility of precast concrete columns. By adding auxiliary reinforcements and composite stirrups, the seismic behaviors of precast concrete columns with large-diameter reinforcements can be guaranteed, and in addition, it is recommended to use the second stirrup form.
