Abstract:As the cornerstone of survival and development of modern society, critical infrastructure systems play an important role in maintaining social functions and improving the quality of the lives of residents. In order to enhance the ability of the infrastructure system in rapidly recovering and maintaining predesigned functions from disaster, the resilience of critical infrastructures has gradually become one of the recent hot research topics. In this work, the different definitions of ‘resilience’ in different fields are summarized, the qualitative studies of disaster resilience of critical infrastructures are reviewed, and the differences and relations between the concept ‘resilience’ and other classical concepts such as “vulnerability” and “risk” of critical infrastructure protection are analyzed. Subsequently, various quantitative assessment and optimization methods of resilience of critical infrastructure are reviewed, and then the existing problems are summarized. Finally, the possible future research issues for disaster resilience of critical infrastructures are prospected. It can be anticipated that the united study on resilience of multilayer critical infrastructure systems based on the system dependency and the cascade effect is a significant research direction in the future.
