Experimental study on the seismic performance of the prestressed high-strength concrete pipe pile reinforced with non-prestressed steel bars

Abstract：The conventional prestressed high-strength concrete (PHC) pipe pile exhibits the brittle damage characteristics under the actions of earthquake, which limits its applications. The experimental results show that by embedding the non-prestressed steel bars, the seismic performance of the prestressed high-strength concrete pipe pile can be improved. To study the failure mechanism and seismic performance of the prestressed high-strength concrete pipe piles, the laboratory tests or shaking table tests can be carried out, but without fully considering the forces of piles and the actions of soil in engineering practice. In order to study the seismic performance of the prestressed high-strength concrete pipe pile reinforced with non-prestressed steel bars, the full-scale field tests on seismic performance of the PHC pipe pile and the prestressed high-strength concrete pipe piles reinforced with non-prestressed steel bars in soft ground were performed. Based on the tests, the conventional PHC pipe piles and the prestressed high-strength concrete pipe piles reinforced with different contents of non-prestressed steel bars were compared for the hysteresis curves, skeleton curves, ductility coefficient and curvature distribution, and their seismic performances were analyzed. The research results show that compared to the PHC pipe pile, the seismic performance of the prestressed high-strength concrete pipe pile reinforced with non-prestressed steel bars can be improved significantly, and for the improvement of ductility performance, there exists an optimum reinforcement ratio.
