The existing design code has strict requirements for the seismic design of building structures, with little focus on the nonstructural components in buildings. Buildings may lose the function because of the damage to nonstructural components even though the structural damage is slight. As a type of typical nonstructural components, pipelines are of practical importance for water supply, drainage, fire extinguishing and gas supply. PPR pipes and galvanized steel pipes, which are common water supply pipes in domestic buildings, were chosen for the tests. 24 sets of specimens were designed with different diameters, water pressures, wall thicknesses and loading schemes, and a total of 72 cyclic tests were performed. The failure characteristics and seismic fragilities of various types of pipes were summarized according to the test results. Furthermore, an example was investigated to demonstrate the application of seismic fragility data to the seismic design and analysis of pipelines.
