Abstract: In view of the shortcomings of the existing damper response amplification technology, a new Cam-type Response Amplification Device of damper was proposed. The structure and action mechanism of the device were introduced, the calculation formula for restoring force of the device was deduced, and the theoretical restoring force model and calculation formulas for the response amplification of displacement, velocity, force, etc., were given. The calculation formula for restoring force of Cam-type Response Amplification Device of viscous dampers in series connection was given, and the comparative analysis of pseudo-static test and theory was performed. The results show that the characteristic of reciprocating motion of the Cam-type device can ensure that the displacements of the dampers in series connection may not fail under all levels of earthquake actions, the response amplification effect can fully exploit the energy dissipation capability of the damper to achieve the same energy dissipation capacity of large-tonnage damper by the combined use of small-tonnage dampers, so that remarkable economic benefits can be attained. The new device shall be promising for the vibration control of structures such as buildings and bridges.
