Abstract:The masonry structure has a glorious history, but, with the development of the building industry, the current situation of the masonry structure is very difficult. This paper has analyzed the influence of the national policy of ‘no-solid and limited clay’, the limitation of the appearance quality of traditional masonry units, the seismic performance defects of masonry buildings without normal design, and the living space of the tightly extruded masonry structure caused by urban buildings being gradually constructed in high-rise buildings. The paper has clarified the related problems in the development of masonry structures, and pointed out that, under the national ‘dual carbon’ goal, the sustainability of masonry structures is well adapted to the needs of urban green and low-carbon construction and the construction of low-rise buildings in new rural areas and hence it is a good opportunity for the development of masonry buildings. Considering the aspects such as investigated high-performance masonry materials, solid waste recycling, application scope and standards of masonry structures, seismic performance, simplified construction of low-rise masonry buildings in villages and towns, composite walls and reinforced masonry, prefabricated buildings and intelligent construction, etc., this paper has analyzed the status quo of the masonry structure and the opportunities, and recommended the development direction of masonry structure and corresponding technical measures.
