Abstract:To clarify the distribution pattern of lateral force between main cable and cable saddle and provide support for theoretical study, it is necessary to conduct targeted experiments. Based on the exploration and practice in model design, loading and testing approaches, feasible experimental schemes for lateral force were proposed. By analyzing the test results, the distribution pattern and change rule of lateral force were studied, and the theoretical research results were validated. The results show that, the relationship between cable force and lateral force basically appears to be linear, that is, the increase of contact force from increasing the cable force in the normal rang has no obvious influence on the contact relationships and force transfer mechanism between discrete bodies; the differences in the distributions of lateral forces between layers are obvious, and the change rates of lateral force with cable force are different at different height, indicating that the ratio between lateral force and the radial force can not be depicted to be constant as descripted by the Janssen formula; the development of lateral force is one-way and irreversible; the larger the ratio between the height and the width of the arranged steel wires, the smaller the lateral force at the corresponding height, but the greater the resultant lateral force along the height; the experimental results agree well with the theoretical results, validating that the proposed method and formula for calculating the lateral force of the main cable is reasonable.
