Abstract:Based on failure modes and bearing capacities of self-lock blind bolts’ tensile tests and shear tests, finite element simulation for the tensile tests and shear tests on the bolts are carried out using ABAQUS, and the simulation results are in good agreement with those of tests. Then, the finite element models for two types of self-lock blind bolts (NBB and SBB) subjected to combined tension and shear are generated using ABAQUS. By changing the angle between the external load and the shaft of the bolt, the ratio of the tensile force and the shear force in the bolt is changed, so that the ultimate load of the blind bolt with different loading angles is obtained, and the tension and shear relationship of bearing capacities of the blind bolts is obtained. When the shear force is small, the existence of shear force has an enhancement effect on the tensile capacity of blind bolt, making it greater than that of blind bolt in axial tension. Eventually, the calculation formula for bearing capacity of two kinds of blind bolts subjected to combined tension and shear is put forward.
