Experimental study and design method for elastic-plastic shear buckling capacity of corrugated web girders with circular opening

To investigate the mechanical behaviour of corrugated web girders with circular openings subjected to shear, 4 specimens for shear bearing capacity were tested. Simply-supported beams were loaded monotonically in the midspan, the midspan displacement was monitored, and some parameters, such as the load-displacement curves, the ultimate load and failure mode, were obtained. The finite element analysis was carried out by using ABAQUS, and the simulation results agree well with the experimental ones. Referring to the existing calculation methods for elastic-plastic buckling of corrugated web H-beam without opening, the calculation expression for the corrugated web H-beam with circular opening was proposed based on the experiment and finite element parametric analysis results. The research results show that the results by the proposed calculation formula has good security and simple form when compared with the test results and finite element parametric analysis.
